I know the KH closest to me closed about 3 or 4 years ago. I have no idea what the story is. I don't know any JWs here. Also, I rarely have JWs knocking on my door anymore and it used to be common.
I did see some in the neighborhood about a month ago but it had been about 3 years since I had seen any before that.
That's what makes it a cult. Total brainwashing. They've got their bases covered.
Interesting news. I guess the world economy and the increase in information through the internet is having a rapid negative effect on the WTBTS. I couldn't be happier to hear this news.
grandma has not seen her for 18 months and auntie 2 years !
i was in the town at the weekend just before i went to work , my little girl was walking a few feet ahead of me and i saw her auntie come out a shop followed by grandma and i thought "oh shit" "what have we got to talk about after all this time " but fortunatley they just walked past eachother oblivious , despite grandma being so close she could have patted her on the head !
i was relieved but afterwards i thought how sad it is that a grandma cant come to visit her own grandchild and didnt even notice her (they are my disfellowshipped hubbys family .
a lady i work with recently lost her husband to brain cancer, she is a very nice person so i made it a point to attend his memorial.
mass at the local evangelical church.. as the service went on, the pastor had asked the man's son, brother, and two sisters to give a little speech about their father, and brother.. it was one of the most emotional things i ever witnessed at a funeral.. .
remember, most of these people are from a different religion, or don't have any belief at all.. the brother gave a very nice talk about growing up together, one sister just stuck to her written script, it was very hard for her to speak in public.. the other sister read a letter that she started when her brother discovered that he had cancer, so her letter covered events for two years.. she started crying several times when something she was reading struck her, yet she was able to laugh, and get the entire church to laugh along with one of her personal observations regarding her brother as he grew up.. the most emotional part was when his 23 year old son got up and read a tribute that he wrote to his dad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.
Absolutely!!!!!!!!! The JW cult works constantly to suppress all humanness in us. We become robots. It takes a lifetime to unwind especially if you are raised in it.
My memory is 1973 Memorial. I attended a funeral of a cousin in 1999. I thought I was far enough out that it wouldn't bother me to go to the funeral the same as if I were at a Catholic wedding or something. I was wrong. I felt nauseous and like I wanted to run out of there screaming. I'll never go again.
this is a followup to a discussion on here about a year ago.
someone asked if anyone knew of anyone who had downsized to a smaller home and were they happy with it.. i mentioned my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
they went from a 3 level home to a small 2 bedroom, 2 bath ranch with an office and a ktchen/great room and a screened in porch and a small laundry room.. well, they weren't very happy for long.

Well, they weren't very happy for long. Very shortly, after selling their old home they built a large 2 car garage and a large above ground pool with decking all around and another porch on the house.
They now are adding on again to the house. They are building a den and a dining room off the kitchen.
I think it's possible to go too small when you become empty nesters and build a retirement home. Any body else have this experience?
i was curious to read what you have achieved and accomplished since leaving the watchtower society?.
in your opinion are you heading toward the success of your goals?.
personally i am determined to have something near the life i was meant to have before the watchtower organization got a hold of my mind and bent it towards their own purposes and uses.. i think many here would be overjoyed to hear of your successes!.
I was raised as a JW. For me it has been a process throughout my adult life to unlearn everything that was taught me during childhood and adolescence. I have opened up my mind to new ideas. I have slowly learned to make friends. I have slowly learned not to look at things as black and white. Everything is gray.
The most important achievment has been to raise my 3 children far, far away from anything JW related.
I listen to all types of music and I play it loudly.
I have attended 4 universities and received 2 bachelor's degrees. I may go for a third one.
Two of my children are in college and pursuing their own path. One child is in high school and she enjoys everything about being that age.
I am married to a man who has never been a JW and can't even imagine how anybody would get tangled up in that cult.
My life and the lives of my children are much better than what I was raised in.
I don't remember the last time I went to a KFC. I also prefer Popeye's. I haven't noticed any closing around here. There's one about 3 miles from my house. But they're nothing like they were when I was a little girl. They need to do a major overhaul and get back to basics.
asilentone, I remember that it was extremely hot and humid and we had some really bad thunderstorms with bad lightening and short torrential rains. It was an awful, awful week.
